Gadchiroli March 23 (District Correspondent) The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has issued notice to the District Collector of Gadchiroli seeking reply in the case of much talked about deaths of the two siblings in the district.
The district unit of Azad Samaj Party had approached the Commission in this regard and had demanded action.
In September 2024, two siblings belonging to tribal community- Bajirao Ramesh Veladi (6) and Dinesh Ramesh Veladi (3) had died suspiciously within half an hour of each other in village Pattigaon in Aheri taluka of Gadchiroli district due to lack of proper treatment, non-availability of ambulance at the primary health centre.
The parents of the siblings in a remote area had to carry the bodies of the two children on their shoulders and walk on muddy roads to reach their home, around 15 kilometres away as there was no ambulance available at the PHC. After this incident, the dismal picture of the health system in Gadchiroli district was once again exposed.
Azad Samaj Party’s Dharmanand Meshram, Raj Bansod and Vinod Madavi filed a complaint directly with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes as the administration did not take any concrete steps after this incident.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Commission has now issued a notice to the District Collector. The district collector has been given 15 days’ time to submit a written reply in the matter. It has also been said that if the reply is not received within this period, further action will be taken using the powers of the civil court.
The notice has been signed by Dy. Director of the Commission R. K. Dubey which has been directly addressed to the District Collector of Gadchiroli. This has created quite a sensation in the administrative circles here and the further action in the matter is awaited.
