Gadchiroli March 1 (District Correspondent) The Faculty of Science and Technology of
Shivaji Mahavidyalaya celebrated ‘National Science Day- 2025’ at the college
commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C.V. Raman in 1928. The theme
for National Science Day was “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science
and Innovation for Viksit Bharat,”.
Dr. M.J. Meshram, Officiating Principal of the college, presided over the programme. Mr.
S.P. Dhomne, In-Charge of the Faculty of Science & Technology was the resource person for this event. Ms. A.V. Thakre of Physics; Ms. A.K. Shivankar of Botany; Ms. Pratiksha Divte; and Shivani Shedmake of Zoology were the chief guests.

Prin. Dr. M.J. Meshram informed that National Science Day was first commemorated in 1986, as advocated by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC). The occasion commemorates the groundbreaking discovery of C.V. Raman, which culminated in the conferment of the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1930, he added.
The Raman Effect, defined as the alteration of light’s wavelength upon scattering by
molecular entities, has proven to be pivotal in the realms of spectroscopy and materials
science, thereby substantially enhancing global scientific advancements, Meshram said.
He added that the primary objective of National Science Day is to disseminate scientific
knowledge, acknowledge contributions to the scientific community, and inspire
innovation among the youth.

Mr. Dhomne asserted that “Scientific inquiry and innovation constitute the bedrock of
societal advancement. Such initiatives present an exceptional opportunity to motivate
students in the realm of science and to acknowledge their innate abilities.” He further
said that as an integral component of the festivities, we orchestrated a competition
cantered around the Science Exhibition focused on C. V. Raman, alongside other science-
related themes designed to galvanize students towards scientific inquiry.
Mr. Nirav Mhashakhetri conducted the programme and Ms. Shreya Sahare proposed
vote of thanks.
