Gadchiroli Oct. 1 (District Correspondent) Various social and political organizations in the district have strongly opposed the Gondwana University’s decision to confer honorary D. Lit. to Dy. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Forest and Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and also the decision of giving ‘Jeevan Sadhana; award to Vidarbha Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’s Sharad Salphale.
Commemorating the 13th anniversary of Gondwana University, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar are to be awarded Honorary D.Lit. at the hands of the governor C. P. Radhakrishnan on Oct. 2 next.
Both the ministers are prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The responsibility of the university is to uphold the constitutional values. While conferring D. Lit. the criterion is that the person should have done great work in academic, scientific or social work. However, Vice Chancellor Bokare has decided to award D Lit to the BJP leaders ignoring all the rules, it has been alleged by the organizations.
The organizations have also opposed the decision to give ‘Jeevan Sadhana Gaurav award to Vidarbha Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’s Dr. Sharad Salphade. While many tribal organizations in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur district are opposing to call themselves Vanvasis, ‘Vanvasi Ashram’s’ Dr. Sharad Salphade has been announced this award’ is insulting to all tribal people of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur district, said the organizations.
There are many persons in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts, who have done great work in the social field, but all of them have been neglected hence we condemn the university, said the organizations.
Dr. Prashant Bokare should stop these experiments immediately, the organizations have demanded adding that Gondwana University should withdraw the decision of giving award to Fadnavis, Mungantiwar and Dr. Salfale.
The organizations opposing the university decision are Movement for Justice, All India Republican Party, Shetkari Kamgar Paksh, Azad Samaj Party, Adiwasi Yuwa Parishad, Jango Raytad, All India Adiwasi Employees Federation, Sanvidhan Foundation, Mali Samaj Sangathana, Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti, Bouddha Mahasabha and many others.
