Gadchiroli Aug. 13 (District Correspondent) A Mandal Yatra has been organized in the state to communicate with the Bahujan people and bring about awareness among them about this Commission. The Mandal Yatra will be reached to every corner, informed the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) OBC alliance, Raj Rajpurkar, while addressing a press conference at the guest house here on Tuesday evening.
NCP (SP) District President Atul Ganyarpawar, State General Secretary Adv. Sanjay Thakre, City chief Vijay Gordwar, OBC cell district chief Shemdev Chaple, senior activists Naeem Sheikh were prominently present.
Mr. Rajpurkar further said that on August 9, NCP supremo Sharad Chandra Pawar had inaugurated the Mandal Yatra in Nagpur by showing the green flag. Through this yatra, communication will also be made with women, youth farmers across the state. Also, OBC brothers will be honoured with a copy of the Constitution of India drafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar throughout the tour.
The Mndal commission is a symbol of honour and self-respect for the other backward classes of the country. The Mandal Commission was implemented in the country when V.P. Singh was in power in the Centre. This commission was opposed by the BJP, Rajpurkar pointed out adding that the OBCs got reservation because of the initiative taken by Mr. Sharad Chandra Pawar, who was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at that time and implemented the Commission recommendations of OBC reservation for the first time in the state.
The Kamandal Yatra was organized in protest against the Mandal Commission, Rajpurkar pointed out alleging that BJP was behind this. We have the capacity to fight for the Bahujans and protect their constitutional rights. This government is against the OBCs and that is why it is calling this Mandal Yatra as a Bandal Yatra. No matter how much opposition there is, this yatra will reach every hook and corner of the state and will enlighten the people about its importance and necessity of implementation, he stated.
The NCP will raise its voice against injustice and will fight for the employment of the youths, plights of the farmers, said District President Atul Ganyarpawar on this occasion. The farmers should be paid adequately and the industrialists should set up their industries and factories in the district itself, he demanded. Also present at the press conference were Hussain Sheikh, Vasant Gongal, Sadashiv Bhandekar, Chandrakant Shivnkar and others.
Earlier the Mandal Yatra arrived from Chamorshi and moved in the different parts of the city where it was accorded grand welcome by the party workers and citizens.
