Gadchiroli Aug. 21 (District Correspondent) The Gadchiroli Malaria Task Force had organized an expert technical consultation meeting to devise a comprehensive plan for malaria elimination in Gadchiroli district at Shodhgram, SEARCH headquarters near here recently.

The two-day meeting was attended by experts from a range of organizations, including ICMR, National Institute of Malaria Research [NIMR], the MANDLA project of Madhya Pradesh, the Gates Foundation, and Officials from State and District health societies and the Society for Education Action Research in Community Health (SEARCH).

Zilla Parishad CEO Ms. Ayushi Singh, Director of NIMR, Dr. Anup Anvikar, and Dr Altaf Lal of the MANDLA project joined the meeting remotely. Dr Sham Nimgade, ADHS, Malaria Program, Nagpur, Dr. Pratap Shinde, District Health Officer Gadchiroli, Dr Dhawal Salwe, Principal, NHM Training Centre, Nashik, Dr. Hemke, District Malaria Officer Gadchiroli were present in the meeting.

Expert Recommendations for the Gadchiroli District Elimination Plan are being submitted to the Government of Maharashtra for further action, marking a solid starting point for action toward malaria elimination in Gadchiroli.

Gadchiroli is one of the six districts in India that is worst affected by malaria. In response, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra formed a Task Force for Malaria Elimination under the chairmanship of Dr. Abhay Bang, Director of SEARCH. The deputy Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has recently instructed the task force to prepare a three-year elimination plan for the high-priority implementation in Gadchiroli. On this background this meeting was organized.
