Gadchiroli Oct. 3 (District Correspondent) Women from Ambeshivani, Ambetola, Bhikarmoushi villages in Gadchiroli taluka have shown their united strength to teach a lesson to liquor vendors in Murumbodi and Botheda, located 15 kilometers from the district headquarters, which is infamous for selling and supplying liquor. Gadchiroli police have registered a case against seven vendors after seizing liquor including lakhs of rupees worth of goods for two consecutive days.

A large amount of liquor was being sold in Murumbodi, Botheda and through the vendors here, liquor was being supplied to retail liquor vendors in various villages including Gadchiroli city. Also, alcoholics from about 14 surrounding villages where liquor sale is banned used to gather in the morning and evening to drink liquor in these villages.

The women organization from Ambeshivani, Ambetola, Bhikarmoushi decided to take action against these liquor vendors. Accordingly, when the women conducted a campaign for two consecutive days in collaboration with the police and Muktipath workers, 170 litres of Mahua liquor worth lakhs of rupees, liquor filtering materials and Mohphula liquor were seized.

Gadchiroli police have registered a case against liquor sellers Jija Kumre, Shalu Atla, Rekha Gawde, Prashant Alko, Vandana Sidam, Prashant Walko, Hirasingh Usendi. The said action was taken by police personnel including PSI Rajkumar, ASI Jayaprakash Meshram under the guidance of Police Inspector Vinod Chavan. Muktipath Joint Director Santosh Sawalkar, Taluka Organiser Revannath Meshram, Rahul Mahakulkar and women from three villages were present on this occasion.

The sale of liquor in Murumbodi and Botheda is affecting various villages where liquor is banned. Therefore, women from Ambeshivani, Ambetola, Bhikarmoushi have come together and continued their campaign against liquor vendors. The women have decided that they will not retreat until liquor is banned from both the villages concerned.
