Gadchiroli Sept. 10 (District Correspondent) The Buddhist Society of India (BSI) Sakhra Branch had organized a lecture series on Buddhism at Amrapali Buddha Vihara of the village the other day as a part of ongoing ‘Varshavaas’ ceremony.
Discourses on various Dhamma topics were delivered by the Buddhist speakers on the occasion and the teachings of Buddhism were highlighted.
Village branch president of the BSI Namdev Undirwade presided over the programme. District President Tularam Raut, General Secretary Prof. Gautam Dange, Gadchiroli Taluka President Machhindranath Vankar, Center Chief Gautam Meshram, Vice President Lahu Ramteke, Police Patil Wamanrao Bhanarkar, Bouddha Samaj Mandal President Ishwar Undirwade, Eknath Nandeshwar, Janardhan Sakhre were prominently present.
At the outset, Lord Buddha and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portraits were garlanded at the hands of the guests and Buddha Vandana was recited to mark the beginning of the programme.
Mr. Tularam Raut enlightened the people on the topic “What is the happiness of man”. Every individual should follow the 38 Mahamangal Suttas enunciated by the Tathagata Buddha and lead their lives accordingly for achieving happiness and peace, he asserted. He explained the ‘suttas’ in detail.
Prof. Gautama Dange, while expounding on “Characteristics of Buddha Dhamma”, asserted that Buddha’s Dhamma is based on democratic values and scientific approach. Buddha gave equal freedom to men and women and there was no any disparity, he added.
Gautam Meshram also spoke on the topic “Importance of Buddha Dhamma in human life” and explained the teachings of Buddhism underlining the need of following these teachings by each and every person for the welfare of mankind.
On this occasion, a large number of Buddhist followers from Sakhara village attended the programme. Mr. Sakharam Lade, Manda Undirwade, Vishranti Khandare, Latabai Sakhre, Dr. Siddharth Sukhadeve and others were present.
Mr. Lahu Ramteke moderated the lecture series and thanked those present.
