
Gadchiroli Dec. 12 (District Correspondent) The farmers’ sit-in (dharna) protest under the leadership of All India Kisan Sabha was held in front of the Sub-Regional Office of the Tribal Development Corporation, Aheri. A large number of farmers participated spontaneously in this protest and raised their various demands.
Deputy Regional Manager Mr. Bargamkar visited the protest site and listened to the demands of the farmers’ representatives. He assured the farmers that the paddy procurement centre at Headri will be approved soon and the procurement will be started. The paddy of the previous season at the Gardewada centre will be lifted immediately, he also assured.
All India Kisan Sabha Maharashtra State President Dr. Mahesh Kopulwar, Mr. Suresh Chawale, District Secretary, Sachin Motkurwar, Aheri Assembly Chief, Com. Ramesh Kavdo, Taluka President, Sainuji Gota, former Zilla Parishad Member, Kanna Gota Village Patil of Gatta, Dodgeji Gota, former Sarpanch, Maharu Lekami, Upsarpanch of Gatta, Mahadu Kavdo Village Patil as well as many local level office bearers and villagers were present during the protest agitation.
This agitation was staged to press the farmers’ issues in the Aheri Legislative Assembly. The issues of sanctioning godowns for paddy procurement centres at places like Hedri, Gatta, Gardewada, completing the lifting of the previous season’s paddy and getting assured prices to the farmers were the other demands.
For the first time in recent times, a widespread agitation focused on the problems of farmers was witnessed in the Aheri Legislative Assembly by the All-India Kisan Sabha which has attracted the attention of the administration to the problems of farmers.
Addressing the farmers Dr. Kopulwar said the Kisan Sabha is committed to work for the farmers, farm labourers and other poor sections of society. The agitation will be intensified further if the demands are not fulfilled, he warned. The kisan Sabha workers from Aheri Assembly area took pains for the success of the agitation.
