
Gadchiroli Jan. 6 (District Correspondent) Jaipal Singh Munda was a member of the Constituent Assembly. He played a major role in securing rights to the tribals. The rights which the tribals in the country have got in the Fifth and Sixth Schedules of the Constitution were due to his efforts. Jaipalsingh Munda was the Mahanayak of tribals in real sense.
This was stated Ms. Kusum Alam, noted social activist and litterateur while speaking at the birth anniversary of Jaipalsingh Munda at the Government Tribal Hostel here the other day.
The program was chaired by the in-charge of the hostel Mr. Bhandekar while Mr. Vilas Nimborkar, working president of Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti, Umesh Uike of Adivasi Ekta Yuva Parishad, Lahuji Ramteke, Mamita Madavi, Sunita Usendi, Amol Kulmethe, Suraj Madavi, were prominently present.
Ms. Alam further said that Jaipalsingh Munda gave importance to the country first and rejected the ICS and became the captain in hockey team in the Olympics and won a gold medal. He was a man of versatile personality. He took his education in the Oxford University, grabbed Oxford Blue Sportsman’s Honor, founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, political leader, lawyer, professor and writer.
He was very intelligent in education and received foreign scholarships. He worked with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, but no one wrote anything about him. There is not much mention of him in the history, but now the young generation should know about him, Alam said.
The other guests also spoke on the occasion and shed light on the life and work of Jaipalsingh Munda.
Mr. Priyadarshan Madavi gave a detailed and scholarly information on Jaipal Singh Munda in his introductory speech. Mr. Suraj Shelmake conducted the programme and also proposed the vote of thanks.A majority of students were present at the programme
