Gadchiroli Oct. 20 (District Correspondent) Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti Branch Gadchiroli and Mahila Junior College had organized a program under the initiative “Utsav Navchaitanyacha, Jagar Stri-Shakti Sammanacha, Pravas Mansik Badlacha” at the college hall the other day.

Dr. Yogesh Patil, Principal of the College presided over the programme while Dr. Ujwala Shende, social worker, Ms. Sudhatai Chaudhary senior activist of ANIS were present as the chief guides.

Ms. Chaudhari in her speech said that during Navratri festival, girls participate in garba dances and neglect their studies. Today we are tasting the fruits of the women who fought against the oppression of women. It is time to remember the women who worked day and night for us and our rights but we are forgetting this. Therefore, the Maharashtra Superstition Eradication Committee has started organizing such programs at the school college level across Maharashtra to honor the great women social reformers. She appealed the girls to be aware of these women and know their work and spread their work in the society.

Dr. Ujwala Shende first discussed with the girls in a question-and-answer format. Physical, mental, ideological and emotional changes during aging were discussed.  She guided on menstrual changes, tools to be used during menstruation, body hygiene, misunderstandings related to menstruation, daily routine, natural changes among the girls etc. Guidance was also given on women’s mental health. She also appealed to the girls to thoroughly study the old customs and traditions and accept what is true and strongly oppose what does not stand the test of truth.

After this, many girls in the college tried to highlight the work of some women. Vaishali Kowase, Srishti Bhoyar, Saili Mohurle, Haseena Pendam, Sanjana Hidko, Payal Gedam, Eksha Wasekar, Supriya Nikure, Mayuri Gedam and Komal Arewar shed light on the life work of the women social reformers, national leaders and freedom fighters of the country including Savitribai Phule, Kalpana Chawla, Anandibai Joshi, Indira Gandhi, Lata Mangeshkar, Sarojini Naidu, Kiran Bedi and others.

The program was moderated by Ms. Sunitatai Salve, and vote of thanks was given by Mayuri Gedam. Prof. Vilas Parkhi assisted for the success of the program. A large number of students and teachers attended the programme.
