A well with hot water

Gadchiroli Sept. 12 (District Correspondent) The miracle behind the much talked about hot water well in village Tetigudam in Aheri taluka has finally been discovered by the Rural Water supply engineers and found that the hot water is coming due to lime stone under the said well.

After the incident of hot water coming from a private well in the village was reported, Vinod Uddharwar, Executive Engineer of the Rural Water Supply Department of the Zilla Parishad, rushed to the village and inspected the well and has clarified that this is due to a chemical reaction of limestone.

On September 8, after receiving information that hot water was coming from the well of one Satyana Malayya Katku, a team of the Rural Water Supply Department conducted an on-site inspection. The well in question is about 20 years old and has a diameter of 1.30 meters and a depth of 7.80 meters. The silt of this well was removed six months ago. During the inspection, white particles were found in the well water and a white layer was seen on the submersible pump. When a geological study of the area was done, it was found that limestone (limestone – calcium carbonate) rock was present there.

After that, samples of water from the well, nearby public hand pumps and other domestic wells were sent to the laboratory for testing. The laboratory results found that the amount of calcium carbonate in the water from the hot water well was as high as 923 mg per litre.

Notably, due to desilting six months ago, the water came into contact with calcium oxide in the limestone rock below the ground. This rock underwent an exothermic chemical reaction with the water to form calcium hydroxide, which generated a large amount of heat. As a result, the water also became hot, concluded the geological study.

This well had become a matter of hot discussion in the area and many people were rushing to see and experience the water coming from it. All the speculations have now come to halt due to the conclusion of the engineers.
