Gadchiroli Oct. 2 (District Correspondent) Gondwana University has pioneered better education in the tribal dominated area and rural and tribal students are getting higher education opportunities due to this university, observed His Excellency Governor C P Radhakrishnan while addressing the convocation of the Gondwana University here this afternoon.

The 11 th and 12 th convocation of Gondwana University was held in the university premises under the chairmanship of the Governor. Mr. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister of Forests, Cultural Affairs and Fisheries, was awarded Honorary D Lit. degree by the governor. The Governor also awarded degrees to the aspirants who obtained PhD. degree, first position gold medal and certificates.

Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Prashant Bokare, Pro-VC Sriram Kawle, Registrar Dr. Anil Hirekhan, Member of Management Council, Dean of Various Faculties, Director of Examination and Evaluation Board Pravin Potdukhe, Finance and Accounts Officer Bhaskar Pathare were present on the dais.

MLA Dr. Devrao Holi, MLA Krishna Gajbe, Acting Collector and Zilla Parishad CEO Ayushi Singh, SP Nilotpal were present at the venue for the reception of the Governor.

The Governor said, he has high expectations from Gondwana University. The university has enormous potential to bring about positive changes in the lives of the tribal people here. As a chancellor, I have the responsibility of the tribal people of this region. Knowing the problems of the people of this area, it will be possible to plan what measures can be taken for their bright future with the help of the university.

He said, education opens the door to human development. Education changes the life of students. He congratulated all the graduating students and faculty saying that education is a great strength.

Mr. Sudhir Mungantiwar said, he could not become a doctor but today the university gave D. Lit. is a great thing of honour. Stating that education enriches a person, he gave an important advice to the students to follow the path of culture rather than the path of selfishness.

In the convocation ceremony, in the academic year 2022-23, the number of degree holder students from different faculties is 10,226. 55 students were awarded Ph.D. and 41 students were awarded gold medals.

In the academic year 2023-24 the number of degree holder students from different branches is 13,607 and 25 students were given Ph.D. 1 student M. E. Research degrees and 41 students were awarded gold medals.

Garlands were offered to the images of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. Vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bakare welcomed the dignitaries and read the progress report of the university. Pro VC Dr. Shriram Kawle read the letter of honor. Dr. Narendra Arekar and Dr. Aparna Bhake moderated the programme and Registrar Dr. Anil Hirekhan proposed the vote of thanks.
