Gadchiroli Oct. 9 (District Correspondent) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a medical college in Gadchiroli online today.

Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and other Union Ministers attended the program through television. The program was telecasted live through the television system from the Planning Bhawan in the Collectorate. On this occasion, the in-charge Collector and Zilla Parishad CEO Ayushi Singh, MP Dr. Namdevrao Kirsan, former MP Ashok Nete, MLA Dr. Devrao Holi, Dean of the medical college,  Dr. Avinash Tekade, District Surgeon Dr.  Madhuri Kilnake were prominently present.

Speaking on this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that due to new 10 medical colleges being started in the state, the medical admission capacity in Maharashtra has increased by 900 and the total capacity is now about 6,000. These medical colleges will become service centres for the citizens.

Stating that the government has made medical education easier, the Prime Minister mentioned that the doors of new opportunities have opened for the youth of Maharashtra. It is government’s priority that maximum number of children from poor and middle-class families should become doctors and fulfil their dreams. At one time, non-availability of books in mother tongue was a major challenge for such specialized studies. The government ended this discrimination and said that the youth of Maharashtra can get medical education through Marathi language. He expressed his belief that the students of rural areas will also remain at the forefront in medical education.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that there were 387 medical colleges in the state in 2014, now it has increased to 706 and Maharashtra has the highest number of medical colleges and said that Maharashtra is leading in the field of education. Deputy CM and guardian minister of the district Devendra Fadnavis said that under the initiative of establishing a government medical college in every district, 10 medical colleges are being started in the state today and he is very happy about it.

In-charge Collector Ayushi Singh said that the opening of medical college at Gadchiroli has provided opportunities for students in the district and nearby areas to get education in the field of medicine and appealed to the students to take advantage of it.

Dr. Avinash Tekade said that the admission capacity of 100 students has been allowed in the medical college in Gadchiroli and the admissions will be determined based on merit in the third round of NIT entrance examination in the current session itself. 85 seats will be reserved for Maharashtra residents while 15 seats will be open for all India students.
