Gadchiroli MC gets prize in ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ initiative.

Gadchiroli Sept. 29 (District Correspondent) Municipal Council Gadchiroli has won the second place in Nagpur divisional level in ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan. The prize consists a cash of Rs.50 lakh. This achievement has recognized the remarkable work done by the council in the field of environment conservation.

Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan is an ambitious campaign under the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Maharashtra. It consists of five principles of environment.

Gadchiroli Nagar Parishad implemented many effective measures in this campaign. It mainly focused on tree plantation under Bhumi principle, creation of green areas, solid waste management, production and sale of vermicompost from wet waste. The city has also received ‘Green Brand’ certification. Vayu principle emphasized promotion of electric vehicles and improvement of air quality. Efforts were made to conserve water resources through rejuvenating ponds, repairing wells, water testing and sustainable festivals under Jal Tattva. Under the Agni principle, solar energy usage was started, and LED street lights were erected. Various awareness activities were organized under Akash principle, which promoted carbon sequestration in the city.

The successful implementation of this campaign was taken up under the guidance of Mr. Suryakant Pidurkar, Chief Officer of Gadchiroli Nagar Parishad. Deputy Engineer Sujit Khamankar, all Heads of Departments, City Coordinator Revanath Gadve, Vaibhav Kagdelwar, Sanitation Inspector Ganesh Borkar, and Rajesh Madhumatke, Girish Kotangale, all Head Masters of municipal school, social organizations contributed greatly.

Under Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan Gadchiroli Nagar Parishad has made a significant contribution towards environmental conservation and has secured second position in Nagpur division. The prize of Rs 50 lakh will further strengthen our eco-friendly initiatives, said Mr. Suryakant Pidurkar. Gadchiroli Nagar Parishad is also actively participating in Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan next phase. This year also we are carrying out activities based on the five principles of environment and are committed to carry forward the work of environmental conservation with the cooperation of the citizens.
