A view of the garden developed by Gadchiroli municipal council

Gadchiroli Jan. 15 (District Correspondent) Employees working in Gadchiroli municipal council’s solid waste project have created a beautiful backyard garden using organic fertilizer produced from wet waste. Fruit trees like mango, guava, custard apple, jamun, and berry are being grown in this garden, as well as various vegetables like brinjal, chili, tomato, spinach, and fenugreek are also grown. Apart from this, many types of flowers have been planted in the garden to give an attractive look to the area.

A total of 15.3 metric tons of organic fertilizer was produced last year through pit composting and windrow composting of the wet waste generated daily from the city. The fertilizer produced through this process has received the Maharashtra government’s Green Brand Certificate. The fertilizer produced in the project is used for gardening along with sales. Apart from this, the gold fertilizer produced from the FSTP (Fickle Sludge Treatment Plant) is also used in this initiative.

The dry waste collected from the city is being properly classified and sent to the cement companies in Upravahi (Gadchandur). This experiment is helping to keep the city clean and is also promoting environmental protection.

The project staff has taken up the responsibility of this entire initiative. Under the guidance of Sanitation Inspector Ganesh Borkar and Rajesh Madhumatke, employees of the project Anand Sontakke, Raju Korcha, Sumrit Korcha, Maya Waghre and Tayrun Sheikh have made the backyard garden flourish. Chief Officer of the municipal council Suryakant Pidurkar has appreciated their performance.

Chief Officer Pidurkar has appealed to the citizens of the city to segregate wet, dry, household hazardous and medical waste and put it in the bell cart. If every citizen supports this initiative, the city can be made cleaner and more environmentally friendly, he has said.
