Gadchiroli Aug. 21 (District Correspondent) Gadchiroli Bandh that was observed today on response to the Bharat Bandh call given in protest against classification of reservation, was total.
All the shops and business establishments in the city and other parts of the district were closed. The workers of various political parties and social organizations actively participated in this bandh. They moved through the city in the morning appealing the shop keepers and business establishments which evoked tremendous response.
A massive dharna agitation was then staged at Indira Gandhi Square of the city in which leaders of the different parties spoke and strongly opposed the classification and creamy layer in reservation to the SC and STs and demanded early revocation of the decision.
Those prominently participated in the agitation were Dr. Namdeo Usendi, (BJP), Adv. Rambhau Meshram (Congress), Gautam Meshram (Sanvidhan foundation), Hansraj Undirwade (Republican Party), Bhashkar Meshram (BSP), Raj Bansod (ASP), Madhao Gawad (Adiwasi Employees Federation), Milind Bambode (BRSP), Gulab Madavi (Baburao Madavi Samiti), Tularam Raut (Buddhist Society of India), Kusum Alam (Womens congress), Vilas Kodap (Adiwasi Panchayat), Bhojraj Kanhekar (Bharat Mukti Morcha), Vinod Madavi, Kunal Kowe (Adiwasi Yuwa Parishad), Malti Pudo (Jango Raytad) and many others.
Similar bandh was observed at various other taluka places also. At korchi all party bandh was observed and a memorandum was submitted to the Tehsildar. Mr. Nijamsay Katenge, Kishor Sakhre, Anil Kerami, Ramdas Sakhre, Shalikram Karade, Deorao Gajbhiye, Ashok Karade, Rajaram Naitam, Zaduram Halami and others led the agitation.
Earlier a huge march was taken out from the market area to tehsil office in which workers of various political parties and organizations participated. There are also reports from various other talukas of having observed bandh and submitting memorandums to the respective tehsildars opposing classification of reservation.
