
Gadchiroli Aug. 9 (District Correspondent) A truck driver and his assistant responsible for the accident that killed 4 students and injured 2 others near village Katli on Gadchiroli Armori highway on Aug. 7 last, have finally been arrested by the police within 48 hours of the imncident.
On August 7 last, an unidentified truck had crushed six children who were out for a morning walk on the Gadchiroli -Armori highway. Two children died on the spot and two died during treatment. Two other children who were injured in the accident were immediately admitted to a private hospital in Nagpur with the help of a helicopter.
The injured children have undergone surgery, and the condition of both the children is currently stable. In connection with the said crime, a case was registered against the unknown truck driver under Section 281, 125 (A), 125 (B) and Section 134, 187, 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act at Police Station, Gadchiroli.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, the senior officers visited the spot and five different investigation teams were formed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police, Mr. Nilotpal. During the investigation of this challenging crime, the police teams searched the truck involved in the crime with the help of eyewitnesses, CCTV footage and other technical evidence. Also, with the help of evidence obtained from the team at the Forensic Medical Laboratory, Nagpur, the involvement of the truck in the crime was established and the vehicle has been seized from the state of Chhattisgarh.
The accused truck driver has been identified as Pravin Balkrishna Kolhe (26), resident of Chichgad in Deori taluka of Gondia district and co-driver Sunil Shriram Margaye, (47), also the resident of the same place. The police have taken both the accused into custody and have booked them. It has been planned to be produced before the court. Police Inspector Vinod Chavan of Police Station Gadchiroli is conducting further investigation into the crime.
The said action was carried out under the guidance of SP Nilotpal, Additional SPs M. Ramesh, Gokul Raj G. and SDPO Gadchiroli Suraj Jagtap, Officer-in-Charge of Gadchiroli Vinod Chavan and officers and officials of Police Station Gadchiroli as well as Police Inspector Arun Phegde of the Local Crime Branch and officers and officials.
