Gadchiroli Dec. 31 (District Correspondent) Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha MP Dr. Namdeo Kirsan has demanded special funds for the development of the constituency.
Dr. Kirsan met the Union Minister of state for Defence Sanjay Seth here on Monday and submitted him a memorandum in this regard.
Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha constituency is a remote and Naxal-affected area of Maharashtra. The constituency is also very vast in terms of area. It spreads over three districts of Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and Gondia which are very backward, and lags severely in education, health, and infrastructure indicators, pointed out Dr. Kirsan.
Gadchiroli is one of the least developed districts in Maharashtra where the poorest of the poor live amidst the situation of extreme violence. Acute poverty coupled with lack of job opportunities is turning many youths to Naxalism which is a matter of serious concern. Many lose their lives in the clashes between Naxals and police. In many villages, pregnant women and patients have to suffer due to lack of access to infrastructure like hospitals and roads, many times, even lives are lost, the MP further stated.
To eradicate backwardness, development of this district is necessary. The tribals are ready to accept the development activities have been demanding for the same. The internal roads are in very bad conditions. Most of the areas of Dhanora, Kurkheda, Korchi, Sironcha, Aheri, Bhamragad, Eetapalli, Mulchera, etc. are unapproachable. Health facilities are to be improved Study Centres, Tribal community Centres (Gotuls) are required in a large scale, said the memorandum.
Solar power supply and hydroelectricity manufacturing will feed the need of power. Therefore, the additional help from the centre is required as the state Government is not able to provide the Special funds for the district including the Amgaon constituency.
The special funds of Rs.10,000 crores for this constituency every year should therefore be sanctioned to achieve development, Dr. Kirsan demanded.
