Gadchiroli Sept. 19 (District Correspondent) Irked over deadly delay in the construction of the national highways in the district, Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Milind Narote, along with BJP workers directly approached the National Highways Authority’s office here on Thursday and took the officials to the task asking them to complete the construction of all the national highways passing through the district without any further delay. He also warned to lodge the complaint with the police if the highway authorities fail to discharge their duties properly.

Citizens of the district are facing great hardship due to the stalled and slow progress of the highway construction works in the district. When Dr. Narote reached the National Highways Authority office, to raise the issue, to his surprise no responsible officer or employee was present there. There was no information in the office about the official’s movements and their whereabouts. The MLA was quite angered to see this situation and he talked to the authorities on mobile phone and gave the necessary instructions. This situation is very serious and if this office does not improve the work within a week and did not speed up the slow progress of the works, then a police complaint against the officials will be lodged, he warned. This created quite a sensation in the administration.

The construction work on the Chamorshi road and Dhanora route of the National Highway has been incomplete for many months. Dr. Narote had instructed the executive engineers of the Highways Authority to complete this work at the earliest. But on Thursday night, a truck overturned on the Chamorshi highway, which brought traffic to a standstill for about 12 hours. A similar situation had also occurred on the Dhanora road two days ago.

Irked over this, Dr. Narote, along with BJP office bearers and activists reached the Highway Authority office. As the Executive Engineer or any responsible officer-employee was not present, he reached the police station immediately. But at the same time, the Executive Engineer called Dr. Narote and spoke to him and assured that the road problem would be resolved within a week. Therefore, without filing an FIR, Dr. Narote went back, giving a warning that if this problem is not resolved within the next week, he will have to file a complaint with the police.
