Gadchiroli Dec. 21 (District Correspondent) The Member of Parliament from Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha constituency Dr. Namdev Kirsan has demanded nation wide caste census and lifting of 50 percent cap in reservation to the backward classes. He also supported the bill regarding representation of the tribal community in the Goa State Legislative Assembly in proportion to the increased population.

Dr. Kirsan raised the issues in winter session of Parliament that is underway in Delhi presently.

Since the reservation limit is 50 percent, many backward classes are not getting reservation in proportion to the population. This is an injustice being done to the backward classes. Until a caste-wise census is conducted in the entire country, no other class including SC-ST, OBC class will get justice, he hoped.

In Maharashtra too, the OBC category has reservation in local self-government bodies, but due to the lack of caste-wise census, their reservation has ended. Until the census data is available, they will not get reservation. Therefore, not only in the state of Goa but in the entire country, a caste census should be conducted and its data should be published and the 50 percent reservation condition should be removed so that due representation could be given to the backward communities through reservation in proportion to the, demanded MP Dr. Namdev Kirsan did this on this occasion.
