Gadchiroli Dec. 9 (District correspondent) Adiwasi Ekta Yuwa Samiti, an organization of the tribal youths has demanded stern action against Markandeya Hospital of Gadchiroli holding the doctors of the hospital responsible for the death of a tribal woman Ms. Kavita Nilesh Kodape.
Addressing the press conference at the Press club here this afternoon, the office bearers of the Samiti told that Ms. Kavita was admitted in Markandeya hospital owned by Dr. Prashant Chalakh and Dr. Vaishali Chalakh on Dec. 6 last as she started labour pains. As the doctors, after examining her, told that everything is ok, the woman was willing to go back but the doctors insisted to stay at the hospital itself. The doctors then performed scissoring of the woman on the same night and a baby girl was born.
At around 11 in the night, doctors asked the relatives of the patients to shift her to another hospital as her oxygen level has gone low. When she was admitted to the Divine Hospital, she was declared dead at around 11.30 in the night. If the necessary facilities are not available in the hospital, why her scissoring was done, asked the husband of Kavita who was also present at the press conference. If everything was normal when Kavita was first examined, why there was hurry for the scissoring, he also asked and said Dr. Chalakh couple is totally responsible for this death.
After scissoring, Kavita started bleeding and when Dr. Chalakh realised that the case has become complicated, they advised to shift the patient giving the reason of oxygen. The ambulance provided by Dr. Chalakh had no any facility. The doctor has thus played cruelly with the life of the patient, alleged the husband.
Dr. Chalakh couple is solely responsible for the death of the woman, alleged the Samiti office bearers and demanded to register a case of culpable homicide against them. They also demanded to cancel the registration of the hospital.
As the deceased woman was the only earning member of the family, a compensation be given for the bringing up of the new born baby, it was further demanded. The members of the Adiwasi Ekta Yuwa Samiti have warned to launch intensive agitation if no action is taken against the Chalakh couple immediately.
Present at the press conference were Umesh Uike, President of the Samiti, Kunal Kowe, President of Adiwasi Ekta Parishad, Amita Madavi, District President of Shiv Sena women’s wing, other office bearers of the Samiti, Amol Kulmethe, youth leader of NCP, Priyadarshan Madavi, Sudhir Masram and family members of Kavita Kodape.
