
Gadchiroli March 13 (District Correspondent) Well known social worker, founder of SEARCH and world-renowned researcher in the field of medicine Dr. Abhay Bang was honoured with the prestigious Yashwantrao Chavan National Award today at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Mumbai.
The award was presented at the hands of Mr. Sharad Chandra Pawar, President of the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre and senior leader. Vice President of Chavan Center Mr. Arunbhai Gujrathi, well known scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar, were prominently present. Replying the felicitation, Dr. Bang said the priority of the government and society should be to empower people with health. For this, Maharashtra urgently needs an alcohol policy and tobacco-free environment. We gratefully accept the fact that the work of Dr. Rani and Dr. Abhay Bang is being recognized at the national and international levels, he stated.
To honour the remarkable work done by this doctor couple in the tribal sector, this award was presented at the 112th birth anniversary program of Yashwantrao Chavan.
Dr. Bang declared that we are dedicating this award to the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, due to which we have come into being and have been inspired by social service. Referring to the rich minerals in the district and the ongoing industries, he asserted that development should be done by protecting the interests of the tribals.
Dr. Anil Kakodkar gave information about the award. Dr. Bang and Dr. Rani Bang successfully expanded healthcare services in remote areas like Gadchiroli he said and praised their remarkable work in the fields of tribal women’s health, newborn care and counselling.
In his presidential address, the Mr. Sharad Chandra Pawar, said that the work of the Bang couple and the ‘Search’ organization is commendable. I am happy that the Chavan Centre has taken note of providing health services to the people in Naxal-affected areas like Gadchiroli. On this occasion, ‘My Enlightening Heart Disease’, a translation of the Marathi book ‘Majha Satyamani Hridayrog’ written by Dr. Abhay Bang, was released by Mr. Sharad Pawar and Dr. Anil Kakodkar. General Secretary of the Centre Mr. Hemant Takle read out the award certificate.
Selection Committee Member Mr. Vivek Sawant, Treasurer of Chavan Centre Aditi Nalawade, Trustee Dilip Walse Patil, Mr. Jeevanrao Gore, Mr. B.K. Agarwal, Mr. Jayaraj Salgaonkar, Farida Lambe, Former Mayor Nirmala Samant-Prabhavalkar, Mr. Ramdas Bhatkal were also present.
