Gadchiroli Sept. 19 (District Correspondent) The death anniversary of Bhaiyyasaheb Ambedkar and birth anniversaries of Anagarik Dhammapal and Periyar Ramaswami were observed by the district unit of Buddhist Society of India (BSI) at the meeting hall of Samyak buddha vihara here on Wednesday.

The programme was presided over by Ms. Surekhatai Barsagade, senior leader of BSI while Mr. Rohidas Raut, senior journalist, Prin. Prakash Dudhe, Dr. Maroti Raipure, social workers, Hansraj Undirwade of RPI and Macchindranath Wankar taluka chief of BSI were the chief guests.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Raut said the Buddhists have got a prosperous tradition of the great philosophers and social reformers. Based on their ideology they must carry forward the principles of equality, peace and fraternity and work for creating an ideal society. Bhaiyyasaheb Ambedkar, Anagarik Dhammapal and Periyar Ramaswami had dedicated their lives for the spread of Buddhism and world peace and their work is inspiring for the present generation too, he observed.

Prin. Dudhe shed light on the life and work of Anagarik Dhammapal and described him as a champion of Buddhism who travelled different countries of the world and devoted his entire life for inculcating human values of the Lord Buddha.

Ms. Surekhatai Barsagade in her presidential speech said the Buddhist Society of India has been working for propagating the ideals of Buddha Dhamma among the citizens and called upon the people to follow this Dhamma for the human welfare and world peace.

Prof. Gautam Dange, General Secretary of BSI made an introductory speech and also conducted the programme. Mr. Siddharth Bhanarkar proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of citizens and workers of BSI attended the programme.
