
Gadchiroli June 5 (District Correspondent) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Kisan Sabha staged demonstrations in front of SDO office of Desaiganj on Tuesday to protest against forcible acquisition of land in the name of industrial development.
The protest was led by the District Secretary of the CPI (M), Mr. Amol Markwar. District Secretary of PWP Ramdas Jarate, the district chief of ASP Raj Bansode and Rushi Sahare also participated in the agitation.
The workers of the party along with farmers assembled in front of the SDO office and shouted slogans in support of their demands. Later on, a delegation of the workers met the SDO and submitted a memorandum of demands addressed to the chief minister of Maharashtra.
The main demands included- alternative government and forest land should be given to the farmers of Wadsa taluka, the Zendepar iron project in the Korchi taluka, which has intense opposition from the local Gram Sabha, should be cancelled, lease of land be issued to the farmers who have been cultivating the land, the beneficiaries of the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana and Shravan Bal Yojana should be given the pending financial assistance immediately, the widows of Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana should be given the benefit of the Ladki Bahin Yojna, all the farmers, farm laborers and workers should be given a pension of Rs. 5,000 per month.
The demands also included that unorganized worker, school cooks, Rozgar sewakas, etc., should be paid a monthly salary of Rs. 26,000, the farm produces should be given the rates as per Swaminathan Commission recommendations, the farmers whose crops are damaged by the wild elephants should be given compensation of Rs. 75,000 per acre, farmers paying regular repayment of crop loans be given the incentive of Rs. 50,000, farmer’s loan be waived off totally etc.
Taluka Secretary of CPI (M) Raju Satpute, Vitthal Pradhan, Chief Devchand Meshram, Nandu Bande, Sheshrao Wasekar, Premlal Barsagade, Shyamrao Baraskar, Devrao Torankar, Dilip Kukudkar, Vilas Baraskar, Hemaraj Bhoyar, Devrao Uprikar, Moreshwar Dumane, Gangadhar Mothaghare and Raju Bhoyar and others participated in the agitation.
