Gadchiroli Sept. 6 (District Correspondent) The Congress Party workers, along with farmers staged a novel ‘Mundan Andolan’ and tonsured their heads today at the paddy fields of village Shioni near here to protest against state government’s delay in giving financial aid to the flood affected farmers in the district.
A large number of farmers assembled on the fields in the morning under the leadership of DCC President Mahendra Bramhanwade and shouted slogans against the state government demanding early relief to the flood affected people. The workers and farmers then tonsured their heads as a symbol of protest and expressed their anger against the government.
Due to heavy rains in July-August and Medigatta Dam, flood situation occurred in the district and the crisis of double-triple sowing came upon the farmers. The heavy burden of debt fell on many farmers and they have been facing utter financial crisis. In such a situation farmers and other citizens affected by flood are needed to be given financial assistance immediately, said Mr. Bramhanwade while speaking on the occasion.
He threatened to intensify the agitation if the farmers are not given the assistance soon an asked the party workers and farmers to remain ready for this. The government could not deliver anything till now beyond the hollow promise, he said and demanded to declare a wet drought in the district.
He also demanded to provide immediate seed for the flood victims during Rabi season, to waive the crop loan borrowed by the flood victims. State General Secretary and District Incharge Dr. Namdev Kirsan also addressed the farmers on the occasion and strongly criticized the government for its delay in giving relief to the farmers.
On this occasion, State Secretary Dr. Nitin Kodwate, Dr. Chandatai Kodwate, Youth Congress State Secretary Vishwajit Kowase, Kisan Cell President Vamanrao Savasakde, Cooperation Cell President Shamrao Chaple, District Secretary Sunil Chadgulwar, Harbaji More, Pramod Bhagat, Kavita Bhagat, Netaji Gavture, Diwakar Nisar, Vasant Raut, Dhivaru Meshram, Abdul Panjwani, Subhash Dhait, Nisha Ayatulwar Javed Khan, Dilip Bhandekar and many other Congress workers participated in this agitation.
