Gadchiroli July 20 (District Correspondent) The Congress workers burnt down the copies of Maharashtra Public Safety Bill 2024 this afternoon in front of the collectorate here and strongly opposed this bill.
A large number of workers assembled at the square and shouted slogans against the bill and then burnt down the copies of the bill.
The bill proposed by the Maharashtra government is extremely unjust, anti-democratic and a threat to fundamental civil liberties. There is a fear that the implementation of this bill will seriously affect freedom of expression, personal privacy and civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution, said the memorandum submitted to the Governor of Maharashtra.
Such a repressive law will have an adverse effect on the people of a tribal-dominated, sensitive and backward district like Gadchiroli. There will be undue police control over local activists, social workers, journalists and ordinary citizens. People expressing opposite views will have to face unjust actions. This bill will violate the constitutional rights of citizens and this bill is not in line with democratic values. This is likely to create a police rule in Maharashtra, said the memorandum further demanding its early withdrawal.
