Gadchiroli Aug. 5 (District Correspondent) Carmel High School and Junior College celebrated Education Week, an annual initiative to promote awareness and the importance of education in India.

School Principal Rev. Fr. Sinoj Sebastian CMI and vice principal Rev. Sr. Nancy Tom SH guided the staff to implement the activities with great zeal. First day commenced with Teaching Learning Materials. Students were facilitated with such aids not only to enhance their learning skills but make them self-competent.

Story telling by parents became the centre of attraction to imbibe ancient heritage. Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) day recognized the critical importance of FLN in the early years of education. The students of all the classes participated in storytelling, speech and tongue twister competition.

Music chair captivated smaller grades to form three-digit numbers. Cluster level sports tournaments were held in the school in which indigenous games and exercises were performed. Cultural Day was observed and the events included folk songs, poem recitation, dances, storytelling, one-act play, extempore speech were held.

Technology in Education Day was also held to enhance students towards scientific approach and usage of technology in day-to-day life. Visit to botanical garden provided ample opportunities to acquaint with types of trees, features of soil. Eco club did Plant for Mother Drive to promote environmental conservation.

Community Involvement Day was observed to inculcate knowledge and skills among students by retired teacher Suseela Soman. Thus, the Education Week was a resounding success, fostering the sense of responsibility among staff, students, parents and community.
