Gadchiroli Dec. 22 (District Correspondent) The District Gaurav Award of the Press Club has been announced for Aniket and Samiksha Amte, who are carrying on the legacy of social service of the late humanist Baba Amte.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the Gadchiroli Press Club that was held under the chairmanship of Club President Avinash Bhandekar.
The Amte couple is doing social service in tribal and remote areas of the district and also running a wildlife orphanage. The award will be distributed on January 6 next in the auditorium of the District Central Bank.
Baba Amte established Anandvan, Dr. Prakash Amte established Hemalkasa and now Aniket Amte is pursuing the establishment of Nelgunda. This is the third generation of Amte.
Mr. Aniket Amte is the Director Lok Biradari Project, Director – Lok Biradari Primary, Secondary School and Junior College Ashram School, Hemalakasa, Bamboo Handicraft Centre and Lok Biradari Dairy. He is also a Trustee of Maharogi Seva Samiti, Warora since 2008.
Aniket Amte, son of social workers Dr. Prakash and Dr. Mandakini Amte, is continuously trying for the overall welfare of the Madiya and Gond tribes, preserving the legacy of social service of his grandfather, grandmother and mother. Along with his wife Samiksha Amte, he has started a school in the remote Nelgunda and has made education available in the dense forests of the district. He is also working to create lakes in many villages and increase the water storage, encouraging fishing in those lakes and providing employment to many hands. He is also an excellent photographer.
Samiksha Amte is also Director of Lok Biradari Project and has been carrying forward legacy of Dr. Prakash Amte. As a master trainer, she has implemented many social service initiatives such as teacher training for government primary school teachers, motivational programs, development of multi-media centres, implementation of Android-based educational apps, developed multilingual education programs (to facilitate the transition from mother tongue to state language-Madia to Marathi). She is the director of Sadhana Vidyalaya at Nelgunda.
