Gadchiroli March 8 (District Correspondent) The Anganwadi cook in the district working with the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Amrit Aahar Yojna attached to Anganwadi Cooks Women’s Union and Swatantra Mazdoor Union staged dharna agitation at Azad Maidan, Mumbai to press the demand of raising their honorarium.

Mr. Krishna Chaudhari, leader of the union led the agitation. These women have been working for the last 9 years but they are being paid a monthly honorarium of just Rs. 1,000.  A total of 696 women from 12 talukas of Gadchiroli district have been cooking for lactating and pregnant mothers under the scheme.

As the honorarium being given to these women is very less, it should be raised to Rs. 20,000 per month, demanded the agitating women. They have been raising this demand with the district authorities for the last many years but no any cognizance was taken hence the women now dashed to Mumbai and stage dharna to attract the attention of the state government during the ongoing session.

Meanwhile Mr. Ramdas Masram, MLA from Armori visited the agitation and discussed about the issue. He assured the women to definitely take this issue to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Ministers of the concerned departments in the Assembly Budget Session.
