Accused in Somanpalli case nabbed by police within 48 hours.

Gadchiroli Feb. 23 (District Correspondent) The Gadchiroli Police Force has succeeded in nabbing two persons, including a minor boy within 48 hours in connection with writing derogatory texts bout Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on the bus stop of Somanpalli on Chamorshi highway.

The name of the accused is given as Sumit Jagdish Mandal (18), a resident of Durgapur, in Chamorshi taluka. He has admitted his crime.

After it was observed that for the past few days, signs and figures of human organs were drawn in a distorted manner by unknown miscreants in Somanpalli and Durgapur villages Ashti Police was investigating the matter. Meanwhile, on Feb. 21 last, a derogatory and objectionable text was found written about Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on a tin sheet of a shed at a public bus stop of Somanpalli. Upon this, Superintendent of Police Nilotpal had asked the police to find out the culprits.

Accordingly, under the guidance of SDPO Ajay Kokate, a total of 10 investigation teams were formed under the leadership of Vishal Kale of Ashti and Arun Phegde of LCB. The investigation conducted by the teams revealed that in the surrounding 10 km. area, various obscene images have been made by unknown persons with black ink similar to the one used in the incident at Somanpalli for the last three days.

Based on the confidential information and technical evidence obtained by the police teams after visiting many villages in Ashti and Chamorshi areas, the identity of the accused came to know. The police immediately detained the said accused and questioned them further about the crime, the accused confessed to having committed the said act.

It is understood that the said accused committed this act due to mental disorder, said the police. The process of arresting the accused Sumit Jagadish Mandal is underway and the minor accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. Further investigation into the crime is being conducted by PI Vishal Kale of Ashti Police Station.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of SP Mr. Nilotpal, Additional SP (Campaign) Yatish Deshmukh, Additional SP (Administration) M. Ramesh, by PI Vishal Kale of Ashti, Arun Phegde of LCB, APIs Bhagat Singh Dulat, Rahul Awhad, Madan Mhaske, Manoj Jasud, PSIs Somnath Pawar, Dayal Mandal, Kashinath Shedmake, Pratiksha Vanve.

Considering social harmony, no such act should be committed by anybody otherwise legal action will be taken, Gadchiroli Police has warned.

It shoul be mentioned here that the Ambedkarites in the district had resorted to agitation following the incident demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
