Food Festival organized by ‘Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi’.

Gadchiroli Sept. 22 (District Correspondent) Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi, an NGO from Kurkheda had organized a food festival in 18 villages in Kurkheda taluka recently.

The program was organized with the aim of increasing the consumption of diverse traditional food in the communities and also bringing about behavioural changes towards nutrition. The villages included Chandona, Chichewada, Neharpayali, Kosi, Vasi, Mohgaon, Sonerangi, Navargaon, Anjantola etc. A total of 587 people participated in the programmes.

Officials of various government departments as well as the founder of the organization Dr. Satish Gogulwar and other activists guided the participants on nutritious food and diet habits. The main feature of the program was that the women of the villages showcased tasty and nutritious food using ingredients such as forest vegetables, other forest produces, pulses, fruits, vines etc.

The women were provided detailed information about their food and were guided by experts on its beneficial and medicinal properties. The participating women were felicitated with certificates and in some villages women from the farmer group performed street plays on nutrition and disease.

The activists of the organization Tanmay Bhoyar, Bhujang Madavi, Sushmita Hepte, Pratima Nandeshwar, Vaishali Shende, Ramdas Maind and Chhaya Kharkate as well as village farmer groups contributed a lot in organizing the programmes.
