Gadchiroli Feb. 8 (District Correspondent) The workers of this country have never been the owners of the system here. The Indian Constitution has given them the right to become the owners of this system. Today the entire system is being privatized on a large scale. The current battle is with the globalization being driven by capitalism. If the workers do not fight against this, they will be crushed under globalization, said the senior thinker Uttam Kamble.

He was speaking at a seminar organized on the topic ‘Labor Movement: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ at the 23rd State-wide Biennial Convention of the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Electricity Workers’ Union (MSBCEWU) organized at the R.K. Celebration Hall here today.

The two-day convention was inaugurated by the National President of Swatantra Mazdoor Union, J. S. Patil. Central president of the organization, Dr. Sanjay Ghodke, was in the chair, while Director of Mahapareshan (Operations) Satish Chavan, Director (Human Resources) Sugat Gamre, and Executive Director of Mahanirmithi (Human Resources), Dr. Nitin Wagh, National General Secretary of Swatantra Mazdoor Union, A. V. Kiran, and National Vice President, Dr. K. P. Swaminathan, Working President, Sanjay More, General Secretary Premanand Morya, Chief Organizer, Suryakant Janabandhu, Legal Affairs, Narendra Jaronde, Advisors Raju Gaikwad and Sudhan Hanwate were prominently present.

Stating that everything that is beautiful, magnificent and epic in the world has been created not by the capitalists but by the workers Mr. Kamble said that 38 percent of the labour unions in the world have been abolished by capitalism. Various NGOs have been established to abolish these labour unions. Therefore, those who work hard and sweat will face difficulties in this new system, he cautioned.

While implementing a social movement, their umbilical cord should never be cut. We will have to take care of the role that the system has imposed on us, he added.

On this occasion, a souvenir titled ‘Energy Workers’ was released by the dignitaries.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. J. S. Patil presented the history of the Indian labour movement and appealed to work to strengthen the Phule-Ambedkar movement in the country. In his presidential speech, Dr. Sanjay Ghodke said that MSBCEWU is the leading organization to solve the problems of electricity workers in the state and informed about the success achieved by the union.

In the second session of the convention, historical researcher and writer Dr. Shrimant Kokate presented spoke on the topic ‘History of the egalitarian movement and the inspiration of the working class. Thinker and writer Prabhu Rajgadkar presented spoke on the topic ‘Problems of Dalit and tribal society and the direction of the upcoming struggle’.

 

Dr. Kokate said that the present and future cannot be understood without understanding history. Prabhu Rajgadkar appealed to the Dalit tribals to fight together and expressed his views that the Ambedkarite movement cannot be successful without the participation of the tribals. The seminar was chaired by the National President of the Swatantra Mazdoor Union, J. S. Patil was.

Around 4,000 electricity workers from all the districts of the state participated in this convention. The inaugural session was conducted by Mr. Dayanand Hadke and the reportwas read by Premanand Morya.
