Women staging protest in the village.

Gadchiroli Dec. 18 (District Correspondent) Women from village Muska in Dhanora taluka staged a unique ‘Baja Bajao’ protest in the village to give the final warning to illicit liquor sellers. A legal action has also been warned if they are found doing illegal business. Women have started concerted efforts under the guidance of Muktipath Project to ban illegal liquor in the village.

In Muska village, a few days ago, Muktipath-Shaktipath village organization had warned the liquor seller and created an atmosphere against liquor in the village through non-violent action and rally. However, some sellers were selling liquor secretly. Muska is surrounded by other villages and people from these villages were flocking to drink liquor.

As a result, the rate of addiction had increased in the village. Women are facing economic and social problems. Keeping this in mind, the women of the village decided to ban illegal liquor sales from their village. For this, the Muktipath taluka team guided the women from time to time. After that, the women took a resolution to ban alcohol and warned the liquor vendors and the people who drink alcohol that they would not back down until the village does not become liquor free.

The women thus started a fight against illegal liquor sales. Accordingly, they warned the liquor vendors to stop their illegal business. Some vendors continued their illegal business despite the ban upon which their liquor making material was destroyed by taking non-violent action. Along with this, efforts were started to make the village alcohol-free by taking various initiatives.

However, some vendors are still doing illegal business in a sneaky way. Therefore, recently, the women held a Baja- Bajao protest in the main square of the village and gave a final warning to the liquor vendors. It has also been decided to take out a march at the police station if the liquor ban is not continued.

A large number of women including Sindhubai Kudeshi, Geetabai Chopde, Bebibai Thalal, Kantabai Gedam, women of the Shaktipath Sanghatana led by Police Patil Devangana Wasnik, participated in this protest.
