Congress demands early solution on wild elephants.

Gadchiroli Dec. 5 (District Correspondent) Gadchiroli District Congress Committee has demanded immediate action to stop the menace of the wild elephants roaming in the district.

A delegation of the party workers met the Chief Conservator of Forest here on Wednesday and submitted him a memorandum in this regard and also discussed the issue with him in detail.

The livelihood of the majority of the citizens of Gadchiroli district depends on agriculture. However, wild elephants that have migrated from other states have been wreaking havoc in the district for the last 2-3 years.

Despite repeated representations and various protests by the District Congress Committee to demand immediate action to control wild elephants, no concrete measures have been taken yet. This year, when the crops of the agricultural season have been harvested, wild elephants have again wreaked havoc in the district. Due to this, crops have been badly damaged and the farmers have suffered a lot. The farmers are scared very much due to repeated havoc of the elephants and have been demanding immediate permanent control of wild elephants, said the memorandum.

The financial assistance provided in compensation to the affected farmers be increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, it was also demanded.

Congress District President Mahendra Brahmanawade, Armori MLA Ramdas Masram, Youth Congress State Secretary Adv. Vishwajit Kowase, City President Satish Vidhate, District Vice President Parasram Tikle, Armori Taluka President Milind Khobragade, Gadchiroli Taluka President Vasant Raut, Shivaji Narote and other office bearers were present in the delegation.
