Gadchiroli Nov. 8 (District Correspondent) A cousin was beaten up to death and then set on fire by his own uncle just for the reason that a cousin did not give a cock for the party.
The incident took place at village Somanpalli in chamorshi taluka on Wednesday and the name of the deceased cousin is Manoj Pandurang Mekartiwar (35), a resident of village Somanpalli. The police however, solved the mystery of the murder within 24 hours and arrested the duo.
According to information, one Sachin Mekartiwar and his friend Rahul Gunjekar (Chinchala, District Chandrapur) went to Manoj to ask for his cock for a party. But Manoj refused to give the cock. Angered upon this, the duo took Manoj and went to Shankar Puppalwar’s house in the village. Manoj was brutally beaten at that place in which he died on the spot.
Due to Manoj’s death, both of them were scared. They took his body on a two-wheeler to a nullah outside the village for disposal. They brought petrol from the village and poured it on the dead body and burnt it down.
In the evening, some people of the village went to nullah to see what was burning and to their surprise found Manoj’s half-burnt body. After that the Ashti police was informed who rushed to the spot and started investigation.
The duo who beat up Manoj and later on set him afire to destroy the evidence, was arrested the very next day and further investigations are on.
