Gadchiroli Aug. 20 (District Correspondent) Saint Tukaram’s sense of compassion, mercy and service is still with us in the form of his Abhangas. These abhangs are still energizing and inspiring to overcome the difficulties faced in daily life. The Saint unravelled the secret of life and preached on many subjects. The message from his teachings is a guide and inspiration for the society, asserted Dr. Nandkumar More, Head of Marathi Department of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

He was speaking at a one-day Sant Tukaram Maharaj Enlightenment Camp organized at Gondwana University Auditorium here the other day.

Pro-Chancellor of Gondwana University Dr. Sriram Kawle, Founder of Faculty of Humanities Dr. Dhanraj Patil, Member of New Delhi Sahitya Akademi. Dr. Pramod Munghate, well-known researcher and author Ashok Rana, Lecturer Ashok Saraswati, Coordinator of Marathi Department Dr. Sham Khandare, Coordinator of Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Adhyasan Center Hemraj Nikhade were prominently present.

Dr. More further said, the objective of Adhyasana is to promote the work of social reformers and spread their work. Today’s generation is going astray and they need a mentor like Tukoba as their guide who kept behind the wealth in the form of his words and poetry. One cannot understand Tukaram Maharaj without understanding his poetry.

There is no other book and guide like Sant Tukaram’s saga. He changed the definition of devotion, religion and love and explained the meaning and purpose of life. Practicing the philosophy of Tukaram Maharaj is a true gratitude towards him, More said.

Dr. Ashok Rana said, Saint Tukaram created an unbroken tradition of Varkari sect. He was the one who showed the whole world the way to live a better life. His abhangas got tremendous popularity. Even the uneducated people use abhangs in their daily recitations. Maharaja’s saga remains in the minds of the masses as a source of eternal knowledge.

Tukaram Maharaj was a realist, fearless and at times a saint who attacked the hypocrisy of the society in sharp words. He played an important role in the life of great men like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Rana said.  The study centre will become an inspiration in Vidarbha, he added.

Dr. Hemraj Nikhade made an introductory speech, Prof. Savita Govindwar conducted the programme and Dr. Nilakant Narwade proposed the vote of thanks.
