Gadchiroli May 28 (District Correspondent) One hardcore Maoist Ganesh Gatta Punem (35), a resident of Bechhapal, Taluka Bhairamgadh in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh surrendered before Mr. Jagdish Meena, Dy. Inspector General of Police (Ops.), CRPF.  After his surrender, he was transferred to the Gadchiroli Police.

Ganesh was recruited as a member of supply team with Bhairamgadh LOS in 2017. He was promoted as Dy. Commander in Supply team in 2018 and worked until now. He was involved in 2 encounters. One that took place in the forest area of Mirtur, Bijapur and another in the forest area of Timmenar, Bijapur in 2022.

Disillusioned by the hollow claims of Maoism and frustrated by their mindless violence against civilians, a large number of members of the banned CPI (Maoist) are attracted to the Surrender cum Rehabilitation Policy of the Government of Maharashtra. Thanks to the effective implementation of this Policy, a total of 662 active Maoists till date have surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police, said the police here today.

Maharashtra Government had declared a reward of Rs. 06 lakhs on his surrender. After surrender, Ganesh will receive Rs. 5 Lakhs as a reward declared by the Central & Maharashtra Governments for rehabilitation.

Due to the intensified anti-Maoist operations conducted by Gadchiroli police, 14 hardcore Maoists have surrendered before the Gadchiroli police from the year 2022 till date.

The surrender of the said Maoist was facilitated by Intelligence Cell of Range Field Team, CRPF Gadchiroli under Mr. Nitin Kumar, Dy. Commandant CRPF.  This action was carried out under the guidance of Dy. Inspector General of Police (Ops.) Jagdish Meena and Superintendent of Police Neelotpal.

Mr. Neelotpal has assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to those willing to surrender and join the mainstream of society and embracing the ways of democracy. Furthermore, he has appealed to active Maoists to renounce the path of violence and adopt the path of peace.
