Gadchiroli Sept. 3 (District correspondent) The hundreds of Congress Party workers and farmers will tonsure their heads in the fields on Sept. 6 next in protest against delay in giving financial assistance to the flood affected farmers.
This was informed by Mr. Mahendra Bramhanwade, District Congress President in a press conference in the DCC office here on Friday.
The farmers in the district have been suffering a lot as their crops were badly damaged and fields swept away in the recent floods. The other people also suffered heavy losses in the flood as their houses were collapsed and property damaged. These people need the government relief urgently. However, the state government has not provided any help to the farmers as yet despite several requests, told Mr. Bramhanwade.
The state government has become insensitive towards the farmers and are busy in their own politics. The farmers are quite dejected and disappointed over this delay hence the Congress Party has organized this ‘Mundan’ protest. The party workers and farmers will collectively tonsure their heads and will attract the attention of the government towards their problems, said Bramhanwade.
Hundreds of workers will also participate in Delhi’s Halla Bol agitation called by the Congress leaders Soniya Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Sept. 4 next, he informed.
Mr. Kowase, former MP and senior Congress leader said the present government in the canter is working tooth and nail to topple the democratically elected governments instead of solving the people’s problems like rising prices, unemployment etc. The situation has become quite difficult as the opponents are being harassed by using ED, CBI. The agitation on the lines of pre independence era has to be launched. The comman people are very much frustrated over the functioning of this government, he added.
Dr. Namdeo Usendi, General Secretary of MPCC and former MLA said the prices of essential commodities are rising due to wrong policies of the government. The rate of inflation has alarmingly increased in the last few years and comman people are put to suffer. The central government is virtually looting the public money. The democratic agitations of the people are being suppressed. Against all this misrule, congress Party has decided to come on the streets, he added.
