Gadchiroli Sept. 29 (District correspondent) The sufferings of the disabled are as huge as a mountain. Just sympathy for them is not enough but honest work for their rehabilitation is necessary, said Mr. Omprakash alias Bachchu Kadu, Chairman of the of Divyang Welfare Committee while addressing the Divyanga rally here the other day. The initiative ‘At the doorsteps of the Disabled’ is being implemented by the state government to reach the benefits of government schemes to them, he said.

The programme was organized at Sanskriti Lawn by the District Administration and Disability Welfare Department. Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Devrao Holi, Armori MLA Krishna Gajbe, District Collector Sanjay Meena, Chief Executive Officer Ayushi Singh, Additional Collector Dhanaji Patil, District Surgeon Dr. Pramod Khandate, Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare Dr. Sachin Madavi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Bhuyar, Shekhar Shelar, Farendra Kuttirkar were prominently present.

Mr. Kadu said that the district administration is doing well in remote and Naxal-infested Gadchiroli district and added that this district can become an ideal in the country and other districts will follow it, if the disabled persons are properly rehabilitated

He further said, a disabled child should not be born, if such a child is born, his rehabilitation should be done. The local level administrative officials such as Talathis, Gram Sevaks, Kotwals, Mandal Officers, Agricultural Assistants should be trained for this, he suggested. The rehabilitation process should start from Gadchiroli, basic facilities should be reached to the disabled persons quickly, he said.

There are many schemes for the disabled. The district administration is paying serious attention to meet the basic need of shelter and toilet and Maharashtra is the first state to establish a separate Ministry of Disabled Persons. He met the disabled and interacted with them and understood their difficulties.

District Collector Sanjay Mina, while delivering the introductory speech said that there are nearly 24,000 disabled people in Gadchiroli district. 21600 are in rural areas and nearly 2500 are in urban areas. Out of this, 80 percent of the disabled have been distributed the certificates so far. while the administration has planned to distribute 100 percent of UDID cards. The district administration is committed to provide facilities to the disabled people, he stated.

Prof. Yadav Gahane conducted the programme and thanked the Deputy Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Bhuyar proposed the vote of thanks. The officials of various departments, representatives of organizations working for the disabled participated in the program. A large number of disabled people were also present.
